Haiku Wedded Bliss

We met a couple of years ago in the Star Alliance lounge at LAX, we talked for about 6 hours, I didn't realize he had sat there missing some flights back home to Austin to keep talking, when it was time for me to catch my flight back to NZ he asked me if he got me a flight and a hotel room if I'd join him the next weekend in Asia to hang out for his friends 40th birthday. I ended up going and we've been together ever since. He decided a few weeks after we met that he was going to marry me and I'd laugh at him when he'd tell me very seriously, 'I don't think you believe me but I'm going to marry you'. He even inquired to book the Haiku Mill venue. Because of how we met I suspected he would propose in the airport lounge but instead we went to Maui for my birthday and he ended up proposing at the top of Mt Haleakala at sunrise on my birthday, I was completely surprised, we then flew to Kauai to stay at the gorgeous St. Regis overlooking Hanalei Bay. It was really perfect and peaceful to get to celebrate my birthday and engagement in a really private way before we told family and friends.

Memorable part of wedding day

We wrote our own vowels so for both of us it has to be standing in front of people we love and sharing such personal and sacred words with each other.

What inspired decor

The venue was so beautiful we wanted to keep it simple but still make sure it was distinctly our wedding. I often refer to our journey feeling like Alice in Wonderland where I went down a rabbit hole. The theme evolved from there with the venue and Garnish cocktails were brilliant to work with as was the catering team and chef Brian. We entertain a lot at home in Austin so planning a wedding that would transport everyone into a special part of our world for a day was really important to us. Our guests had so much fun finding their keys in the tree and many of them have described it as a really magical experience which is a lovely feeling.
